A Home Win !!!!! and lots more

A lot has happened for the Baton Rouge Tigers since our last update.  We experienced both the bitterness of defeat and the sweetness of victory.  Our bravest Tigers travelled to Atlanta on May 16th and took on the Kookaburras.  A tough road test for the club ended in a convincing win for Atlanta with Baton Rouge going down 106-67.  Billy “Deeboe” France was our best on ground and collected 3 points for his intense attack on the ball and leadership out of our backline.  Honorable mention to Josh Cartmill and Rob Montanaro who received 2 and 1 points respectively. BR team Vs NashvilleBR Tigers Vs Nashville score

On June 27th the Tigers were back on home turf and ready to take on the visiting 10th ranked Nashville Kangaroos.  In hot conditions, the Tigers used their bench to perfection to overcome an early deficit and run away from the Roos.  Final score was 17.12.114 to 7.4.46 in favor of the Tigers!  This was a great team win with every Tiger stepping up and finally getting reward for all their hard work.  Best on Ground went to Stephen Gauthe (3 pts), Mitch Gray (2 pts), and Mitchell Pedler (1 pts).

Next up the Tigers go on the road to Nashville on August 8th for a three-team tournament with Ohio Valley and the Kangaroos.  You can bet that the Roos will be up and running, ready to redeem themselves on their home ground.  Mark it on your calendars!  Should be a great footy weekend!

Finally, the biggest news of all, we have a new sponsor.  We would like to thank Record Dental Center of Central, LA for stepping up and helping the Tigers secure brand new kits!  This is huge for the club and would not be possible without the support and generosity of our sponsors.  Be sure and thank them personally and watch for our exciting new look at our next home game.

First game set to brew

In the wake of starting our practice sessions it seems that this pre-season is not going to ever end, ever. But alas, there is hope on the horizon as the Tigers continue to prep for the *queue the music* First Game of The Season.  The Tigers will make their conquest to Cullen Park in Houston, TX, home of the last stand of the Alamo and the world’s largest pecan, to face the Lonestars in The Ruggles Cup of 2015, in memoriam of a fallen Lonestar teammate.

The boys from Baton Rouge are excited to lace up the boots and see their recent hard work in action. The Tigers have seen a few new faces on the pitch with the addition of a couple of Aussies and some young thoroughbreds from campus. We recently sent a camera crew to the Baton Rouge Tigers Clubhouse, but were denied access to the vault that Coach Stebbing had installed late last week. Though Coach Stebbing denied to comment on several requests, if he had to say something, we believe that he would have said something to the tune of: “I’m just happy to be here.”

Don’t forget to check out the ANZAC Day Event following the game.  More information at the Lonestars Website.

If you are one of our many Houston fans, or if you just need to get out of the house before the in-laws show up, come check out the match.

Officer Meeting

Josh Cartmill (President), Coach Neil Stebbing, and I (Vice President) met yesterday evening in preparation of the start of the 2015 season.  We have a lot to look forward to this year, as the three of us talked about where the club is today and what goals we should be concentrating on this season. We’re all excited about the kick off of our season, with the first practice less than a month away. The meeting was mainly to discuss how practice will be coordinated and scheduled in order to make the time we have productive. However, don’t be fearful of practice turning into “lace’s out” serious. One of the lasting characteristics of the club is the positive atmosphere in which we operate. The three of us absolutely hold this attribute above all us.  We are looking to mold our club into a structured amount of fun, and have it continue to be something that you’d want to take back home to Sheila.

Remember to set your calendars to Feb 22, 2015 @ the LSU Parade Grounds.

Thursday Practices are back!

Following the Ruggles Memorial Game and leading into the rest of the season we are getting in as much training as our bodies can handle. After a few changes our Thursday night and Saturday practices that had previously moved to the LSU Parade Grounds have been moved back to Westdale Middle School due to LSU planning maintenance on the parade grounds over the Summer .

The new Thursday practices will be held at 6:00pm sharp., and Saturdays are at 11 am.

As always new members are welcome so bring a friend or two!

Happy New Year!

As we roll around to a new year we are getting ready for a new season of footy. Our first official practice will be held on January 19th at 1pm on the LSU Parade Grounds. Until then we will have the occasional pick up games of Ausball as well as Happy’s Running every Tuesday at 6:15pm at Happy’s Irish Pub on 3rd St. We are looking forward to another great season with a lot of new players that we have gathered during the offseason. As always potential new players are always welcome and now is a great time to come out to get the basics down before the season and training picks up.

Email us at batonrougetiger@gmail.com if you have any questions about the game or practices.

End of 2013 season

We’d like to thank everyone for all their hard work in 2013, it was a great year with us all having a lot of fun, some great games and really good fitness. Other than a casual kick of the footy on a weekend and some fitness over the holiday break, (we will still do the Happy’s Run every Tuesday) we’ll be taking some down time and will be starting up after the new year. As always potential new players are always welcome and now is a great time to come out to get the basics down.

Yes, in just over 1 week Josh Cartmill(prez) and yours truly will be taking a team of Baton Rouge’s finest to combine with our good friends the Atlanta Kookaburra’s to play at the 2013 USAFL Nationals in Austin TX.

It’ll be a great, hard hitting and exhausting competition, but that’s what we live for so check back here and at our Facebook page as details become available.

Sept 21st: Last Home Game for 2013

Come On, Come On… September 21st will be our last home game for 2013 with the Atlanta Kookaburra’s coming into town. It’ll be another early game due to the days still being hot, so we’ll be starting at 9:30am and will be done before 11:30. Free front row seats are still available for those who want them so bring a chair, bring a friend and maybe even some shade if you want it, thought some will be provided along with ice cold water :-).

It will be another good hard match with the Tigers seeking revenge following the close loss against Atlanta earlier in the year, so some hard running, hard hitting and high flying action will be guaranteed.

Then,… we will again be tailgating on the LSU parade grounds with both teams, starting at 2 pm with Jambalaya, salad, beer, water and soda’s for the 1st home SEC game of the year with LSU Vs AUBURN. Again grab a friend and join us for the other thing we do so well here in Louisiana, PARTY!!! We will be accepting donations for the all inclusive tailgate ($20 for guys and $10 for girls) but it’s free to just come and hang out and everyone is welcome

Again there will be more Aussie Football this year with Nationals in Austin in Oct 19th and 20th and Austball continuing every Thursday (Non Contact/Co-Ed Aussie Rules) with warm up at 6 pm and games at 6:30, but this is the LAST HOME USAFL Nationals level Aussie Rules game of 2013.
